Werder fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat against Bayern on Saturday afternoon. “I’m very disappointed, because we really wanted to win today. We played well at points, but our performance today wasn’t enough in the end,” said Ludwig Augustinsson. Head coach Florian Kohfeldt added: “Points-wise it’s just not enough, there’s no beating around the bush.”

On the game:

Sebastian Langkamp: “We weren’t moving forward aggressively at the beginning of the game – that’s what we were doing well towards the start of the season. Today, this only worked at certain points. Bayern showed their quality today at the start of the second half. We hoped to get more when it was 2-1, but we deserved to lose today.”

Ludwig Augustinsson: “You need a top performance against Bayern, and we didn’t provide one. I don’t know why, but we sat really deep at the start of the second half. We made it too easy for them with the second goal. Towards the end, we tried everything to get the equaliser. It worked it Freiburg, but didn’t today.”

Davy Klaassen: “Bayern were better today and deserved to win, even though we managed to keep the ball in their half for a bit after the equaliser. Bayern have suffered a bit, but they’re the best team in the league and we weren’t good enough to beat them.”

Florian Kohfeldt: “We tried to defend bravely, but if you slip then the opponent gets chances. There weren’t many in my eyes. We had moments where we could have scored, but we didn’t find the finish. I didn’t see a weak Bayern; they were brutal with their quality. World-class players like Coman and Gnabry are just massively difficult to defend against.”

Frank Baumann: “It was a very decent performance, but it’s a defeat so of course we’re disappointed. We lost the ball too easily again today and it was difficult to get back into the game after we went 2-1 down. We also lacked a bit of luck in the end.”

On the next game against Düsseldorf:

Florian Kohfeldt: “I’d be concerned if our playing style were to change, but it won’t. However, we don’t need to dress anything up. One point from five games isn’t enough. We need to, want to and will pick up more points. Düsseldorf is a very important game for us.”

Frank Baumann: “There’s a lot of expectation. We’re at home so we’re favourites, but we know that it won’t be easy against Düsseldorf. They showed that against Bayern.”

Ludwig Augustinsson: “There are a lot of important games coming up now. We have to be ready against Düsseldorf on Friday night and focus on our game for 90 minutes.”

Sebastian Langkamp: “We have to concentrate on the game next weekend now – it’s massively important. We shouldn’t kid ourselves.”

On Milos Veljkovic’s injury:

Frank Baumann: “Milos Veljkovic picked up a groin injury. We’ll know more tomorrow. However, I get the feeling that it’ll be tight for the game next week.”

Florian Kohfeldt: “Milos was getting a sharp pain in his groin. Unfortunately, we have to assume that he won’t be available against Düsseldorf. I feel really sorry for Milot Rashica, who was meant to come on. We then had make the defensive change and we brought Kevin Möhwald on to change our style of play slightly. Piza was our last sub and we wanted to play balls up into him. I’m annoyed that Niklas Moisander was sent off, because we’ll be without both our starting centre-backs for the game next weekend. I’m glad that we have Marco Friedl and Sebastian Langkamp.
