The first round of the DFB-Pokal has been played, and the first two Bundesliga matchdays are complete. It’s now time for players to join up with their national teams during the international break, as per tradition. Nine Werder players, five first-team and four youth players, are on their ways to play for their countries this week. WERDER.DE presents an overview of all the Green-whites who are on their travels this week.

Sweden international Ludwig Augustinsson made the quarter finals of the World Cup in Russia, and got a goal in the process. As a key player on the left flank, it’s obvious why the Scandinavian has been called up once again. This Thursday at 20:45 (CEST), the Swede will play in a friendly with Austria, against Werder teammate Florian Kainz, before going on to face Turkey at 20:45 on Monday in Sweden’s first match of the UEFA Nations League.

Kainz will also be in action again a day later, when Austria take on Bosnia at 20:45. Also playing in the UEFA Nations League is Milos Velijkovic, who represented Serbia in the World Cup. The 22-year-old faces Lithuania on Friday at 20:45, before taking on Romania at the same time next Monday.
Jiří Pavlenka, who had been called up to play for Czechia, will not be travelling to meet up with his national team however. Werder’s number one will instead stay in Bremen to recover after his collision last game. His teammate for both club and country, Theodor Gebre Selassie, has travelled to meet up with the national squad though.
Another man playing in the UEFA Nations League is Milot Rashica. The 22-year-old has been called up by Kosovo for Friday’s match against Azerbaijan at 18:00 and Monday’s match versus the Faroe Islands at 20:45.

Eggestein brothers in action for Germany

Both of the Eggesteins have been called up for German youth teams. Maximilian Eggestein will meet up with the U21s for Friday’s friendly against Mexico at 19:00. The U21s will then be playing a European Championship qualifier against Ireland on Tuesday the 11th at 20:00. Brother Johannes, meanwhile, will be in the U20s squad, who are up against Czechia in a friendly this Friday at 18:00.
U21 players Marco Friedl and Felix Beijmo are also on their travels this week. Austrian left-back Friedl is involved in two European Championship qualifiers, facing Armenia on Friday at 18:00 and Gibraltar the Wednesday after at 20:00. New arrival Beijmo will also be in the Swedish squad for two qualifiers this week, taking on Hungary on Friday at 18:30, and then Turkey on Tuesday at the same time.
