Yuning Zhang will leave SV Werder Bremen after one season and return to West Bromwich Albion. The Chinese international came to Werder Bremen on a loan deal from the Premier League club last summer.
“We’ve got to know Yuning over the last few months as a young player who is eager to learn. He has steadily improved during his time here and made the step up to the Bundesliga squad towards the end of the season. We would like to thank Yuning and West Brom,” says sporting director Frank Baumann.
Yuning Zhang can look back at a positive season with the Green-Whites. “I want to thank Werder, the city of Bremen and most of all, the fans, for the time I’ve spent here. I’ve felt really happy here. Even if it hasn’t been such a successful time, I’m still happy to have been a part of Werder. Now it’s time to prove myself elsewhere,” says the 21-year-old.
Yuning Zhang moved in July 2017 from Dutch club Vitesse Arnheim to West Brom, who loaned him out to Werder Bremen. The Chinese international hoped to further develop in training with the Bundesliga squad and collect some experience in the third tier. Despite efforts at all levels, it wasn’t possible for the Green-Whites to obtain the permission which had been obtained for Chinese player Ci Tian the year before.
