The start of the season is slowly edging ever nearer. After four intense days of training in Schneverdingen, two friendly matches lie in store against English Premier League side West Ham United this weekend. The London based club have been carrying out their own training camp not far from Bremen, in Rotenburg (Wümme). They will then face Werder in the 'Betway Cup'. The first meeting between the sides will be played right outside the hotel in the  Schneverdinger Osterwald-Stadion. The first friendly will be played tomorrow at 18:30 CEST and the second a day later at 15:30 CEST.

For head coach Alexander Nouri, the double-header against Slaven Bilic's men comes at a good time: "These will be two very good tests for us. West Ham have attracted some attention in the last few days with some interesting signings. We're pleased that we have the chance to play against such a strong opponent from the Premier League towards the end of pre-season." WERDER.TV will be showing the match live from Schneverdingen.

Find out which former Green-White Werder could see again on Friday, when the two sides last met and why West Ham are already familiar with green and white walls...

Did you know that ...

… the last meeting between the two sides marked the birth of the "Green White Wonderwall"? Werder and West Ham last met two years ago, again in the 'Betway Cup' in West Ham's former stadium. The Werder fans broke out into a chorus of 'Wonderwall' by Oasis and hence the supporters of the Green-Whites received the nickname 'Green White Wonderwall. Werder won the match at the Boleyn Ground 2-1, with Anthony Ujah scoring a brace against the Londoners.

… a former Werder man now plays for the Hammers? West Ham completed the singing of Marko Arnautovic just a few days ago. The Austrian, who left Werder for Stoke City in 2013, joined the Hammers from Stoke earlier this week. The 28-year-old scored 16 goals in 84 matches for Werder bwteen 2010 and 2013. On Firday, Arnautovic could come up against his Austria teammates Zlatko Junuzovic and Florian Kainz.

… Arnautovic's new strike partner Javier Hernandez doesn't have a good record against Werder? Javier Hernandez is another recent addition to the West Ham squad. The Mexican, who commonly goes by the name of 'Chicharito', has joined the London based club from Bayer Leverkusen. However, the 'small pea' doesn't have a great record against the Green Whites: of the five previous meetings against Werder, he's won one, drawn one and lost three.

... the Hammers haven't just strengthened offensively, but also defensively? England goalkeeper Joe Hart has joined on a one year loan deal from Manchester City and West Ham have also signed right-back Pablo Zabaleta from the same club.
