The Bundesliga finally returns! Werder kick off their new season away at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at 15:30 CEST on Saturday. According to Fin Bartels, the game can’t come soon enough. “After long pre-season preparations, we are all raring to finally get going again.” Alexander Nouri knows that facing TSG Hoffenheim won’t be an easy start to the season. “Hoffenheim are a very good side. Julian Nagelsmann has achieved a lot with his team and they made a very good impression last season.” Former Werder players Florian Grillitsch and Serge Gnabry will be involved in Saturday’s match. “We know what we are up against and what we have to do as a team to win,” said Nouri. “If we put on an excellent team performance, we can get the three points.”

Did you know, that …

… Werder are likely to score two goals tomorrow?

Werder scored at least two goals in each of their last ten Bundesliga matches last season. Maybe we will carry on this record at the start of the new season …

… the travelling fans are very likely to see some goals?

No other Bundesliga team has scored away at Hoffenheim as many times as Werder. The Green Whites have scored 18 Bundesliga goals at the Sinsheimer Arena. The match only finished scoreless in March 2009.

… each team has a player who is likely to score?

Werder midfielder Philipp Bargfrede is well known for scoring goals against Hoffenheim. Four of his five Bundesliga goals have come against Hoffenheim. Andrej Kramaric however, has scored three goals against Werder in just three Bundesliga matches. A lot of attention needs to be paid to these two.

… Werder will be facing two former teammates on the first day of the new season?

Last season, Serge Gnabry scored eleven goals and provided one assist for Werder. Florian Grillitsch also played an important role in Werder’s improvement last season. We are looking forward to seeing these players again and would like to wish them a successful season at TSG Hoffenheim!

… Werder have the chance to be successful again on the opening day of the season?

Werder haven’t won on the opening day of the season in the last three years. Now, the Green Whites can start off the season with a win against TSG Hoffenheim. The previous head-to-head record speaks in Werder’s favour, with the Green Whites having won 10 out of the last 17 fixtures.

… Werder will be celebrating a record on Saturday?

On Saturday, Werder will be playing their 900th Bundesliga away match. Werder have won 247 of their previous away fixtures, drawing 233 and losing 419. It would be a good time to start improving this record on Saturday.

… Guido Winkmann will referee Saturday’s match?

The last time Guido Winkmann officiated a Werder fixture, the Green Whites beat SV Darmstadt 98 at home 2-0. His assistant referees will be Christian Bandurski and Arno Blos. The fourth official will be Robert Kempter.
