Kohfeldt on the upcoming match: “We are really excited for the game and the unbelievable atmosphere that awaits us. We have been looking forward to it all week and now it is important for us to channel our excitement and put in a great performance,” the Green-Whites head coach said in the press conference ahead of the match. This is a good starting point from which SV Werder can go about carrying out their game plan in the fiery atmosphere at the Signal Iduna Park. “It will be our first priority against BVB, just like against any other team, to be attacking and then we will think about how to defend against the huge amount of individual quality in the Dortmund side,” Kohfeldt explained about his side’s approach to the game.
Kohfeldt on the plan for the game: “Obviously our gameplan is influenced by the quality of the opponent. The questions we need to answer are when we will man-mark, when do we avoid doing that, when do we press? Dortmund press really aggressively too which will create space for us in behind and that has been a big topic of discussion for us this weekend.”
A landmark goal?: When Saturday’s game gets underway, the Green-Whites will have a reason to celebrate from the off. Max Kruse will make his 200th top-flight appearance. In the last 199 appearances, the attacker has scored 61 times and every Werder fan will be hoping he can add to his tally in Dortmund.
The referee: Manuel Gräfe will take charge of proceedings in front of 80,000 fans on Saturday. The Berlin-born referee has been a Bundesliga official for 13 years and has officiated 38 Werder games, out of which Werder have only lost nine. Robert Kempter and Markus Sinn will be his linesmen whilst Frederick Assmuth will carry out the fourth official duties. Guido Winkmann and Patrick Alt will be the video assistants.
