Das Interview führte Felix Ilemann

Medical check at the hospital on the other side of the Weser, endurance test at the club’s fitness centre, photo-shoot, interview, then last but not least, late in the afternoon, Felix Beijmo signed the contract with Frank Baumann. It was a busy day for the new Werder Bremen man, who actually flew back to Sweden later that evening. Feet up and relax? That’s not on the ambitious 20-year-old’s to-do list for the summer break. "This is my big chance here," he said. He wants to take this chance to get to peak fitness for the start of preseason and show everything he’s capable of. No wonder either; the right back is moving from the Swedish first division to a big club in one of Europe’s top leagues. That’s a big step, but is he scared? Beijmo doesn’t know the meaning of the word. He wants to grab the opportunity with both hands, and left us with no doubt after his interview with WERDER.TV and WERDER.DE. He spoke to us about his aims, the Werder fans in Sweden, his relationship to Ludwig Augustinsson and his little brother.

WERDER.DE: "Welcome to SV Werder, Felix. How do you feel having signed your new contract?"

Felix Beijmo:
"I feel fantastic. This is my first big step on the European stage to a big club."

WERDER.DE: "What made you decide that Werder was the right club for you?  What did you already know about us?"

Felix Beijmo:
"I knew Ludwig (Augustinsson) played for Werder, because I played with his younger brother in Sweden, so I asked them both a lot about the club. I know beforehand, though, that lots of big players had played here: Diego, Mesut Özil, Miroslav Klose, to name a few. Aside from that, Swedish footballers have always played for Werder, like Markus Rosenberg and Denni Avdic. Werder Bremen are famous in Sweden, everyone knows who they are, so I’ve also followed the club for a long time. When they gave me the opportunity to move here, I knew from the start that it was the right step for me to take."

WERDER.DE: "Some Werder fans will already know everything about your career so far, others will not know as much. Tell us about your story so far and how you see yourself?"

Felix Beijmo:
"I was at Djurgardens IF in the Swedish premier (Allsvenskan) for a year and a half. Before that, I had been playing at my hometown club Brommapojkarna since I was eight year sold. My biggest success so far? I won the Swedish Cup with Djurgardens in spring, that was one of two major Swedish titles, but I hope that many more successes are to follow. Now I am here and I want to win every game and play my part in that."

WERDER.DE: "You sound very motivated. What are your aims with Werder Bremen?"

Felix Beijmo:
"I want to show what I’m capable of, what kind of a player I am and of course I want to play as much as possible. That’s what I expect from myself first and foremost. I want to help the team make progress with good performances, but obviously I want to make individual progress as well, in order to achieve those targets we set as a team."

WERDER.DE: "Looking ahead to next season: Werder will now have two Swedish fullbacks. Does this mean we can expect lots more Green-White support from Stockholm?"

Felix Beijmo:
(laughs) "Yes, I think so. Ludwig and I both played for the Brommapojkarna youth teams, and the fans and people of that town will always keep an eye on Werder. It would be fantastic if Ludwig played on the left and I played on the right – we could just hit crosses towards each other all the time (laughs again).

WERDER.DE: "Hopefully your crosses will find someone in the box most of the time, someone who can turn them into a goal."

Felix Beijmo:
 (laughs) "Exactly, that’s the plan."

WERDER.DE: "What are you looking forward to most of all?"

Felix Beijmo:
"Playing in front of those fans in the Weser-Stadion is what I’m most looking forward to. I’ve heard the stadium is always sold out and I hope that’s true. Then I want to show what I can do and hopefully enjoy myself."

WERDER.DE: "We hope so too. Thanks very much and good luck."
