SV Werder Bremen are pleased to announce the signing of Yuya Osako from 1. FC Köln. The Japan international joins Werder this summer, following Kevin Möhwald as the club’s summer recruit. Osako joins the Green-Whites for an undisclosed fee.

"We’re delighted that in Yuya Osako we could add an important building block to our squad and bolster our attack with such a technically-able and flexible player. On top of all that, Yuya arrives with plenty of experience in the Bundesliga," said Frank Baumann, SV Werder Bremen’s sporting director about the Japan international who will most likely be part of the squad for the upcoming World Cup.
Florian Kohfeldt added: "Yuya strenghtens us massively. He is creative and moves well through the games. Furthermore, he can play the final pass and is a real goal threat." Osako, who can play in multiple positions, is looking forward to the new challenge.
"In recent years I’ve had the feeling that Werder is a club with fantastic fans and lots of tradition. I’m looking forward to the challenge and would like to contributing to the good work that has been done in recent months," told the 27-year-old.
Yuya Osako moved to Germany in January 2014 from his homeland Japan, where he made 15 apperances for 1860 München in the 2. Bundesliga. He then signed for 1. FC Köln, where he played 108 times in the Bundesliga, notching 15 goals and 15 assists, as well as six appearances in the DFB-Pokal (two goals). He has played 26 times for the Japan national team and has been included in the provisional World Cup squad.
