Farewell, Zillertal! After nine days of intense training, Werder’s summer training camp in Zillertal has come to an end. Friday evening marked the Green-Whites’ departure to Mönchengladbach, where they will partake in the Telekom Cup on Saturday.
Farewell, Zillertal! After nine days of intense training, Werder’s summer training camp in Zillertal has come to an end. Friday evening marked the Green-Whites’ departure to Mönchengladbach, where they will partake in the Telekom Cup on Saturday.
Both Werder’s director of sport Frank Baumann, as well as manager Alexander Nouri, gave positive summaries upon readying to depart. “We used the training camp in order to get players back up to their required fitness levels, as well as to get them used to training intensely again. I’m very happy with that,” concluded Nouri, who oversaw the 26 players at the camp as they completed their morning run and weight training sessions.
The two friendlies will also prove useful in determining where Werder’s weaknesses lie, as did the game against Ajax, although it was overshadowed by the tragic event which took place. “Our focus lies on ensuring our defence is up to par. We want to work on the details. I’m very pleased with the way in which we’ve done that here in Zillertal,” said Nouri, who was impressed with the quality of the facilities, the team hotel, and ambience of the location in what was his first training camp as Werder manager. “The facilities were fantastic. Everyone was very pleasant and wanted to help as much as possible. We’re thankful for the hospitality we received and feel at home here in Zillertal.”
Baumann too was quick to praise the surroundings, saying “we were able to put in great work here, and the pitches in which we’ve been investing for a few years now were very good. Every visit here gets better and better. The football academy is fully booked, and we’ve never seen so many fans before. Werder are welcome guests here, and that’s great to hear,” said Baumann.
However, bad news looms over Niklas Moisander’s strain. “He’s a very important player who helps us with his experience – that’s why his injury is a problem. Despite that, we’re optimistic that he’ll return a few days earlier than anticipated,” explained Werder’s manager. Injured alongside the Finland international is Aron Johannsson (muscle injury), Philipp Bargfrede, and Lamine Sane.
