The Green-Whites had known for a while that they would be have to take part in some sort of team-building day during pre-season, however, for Kruse, Junuzovic and co. the events which panned out yesterday came as something of a surprise. The coaching team had arranged a special day of team-building for the Werder players: at the army barracks in Hannover.

From early in the morning until the afternoon, the players had to move around different stations partaking in various tasks in small groups. The aim was for them to complete the tasks by working together to find solutions. "It was important that everyone contributed and that everyone took responsibility. These were great team activities which you could watch and get involved with," said head coach Alexander Nouri on the event held at the school for military police and staff duty of the German armed forces. The day was led by colonel Dirk Waldau.

"I think that we can take a lot from today that will help us in one or two situations over the course of the season. I'm very happy and extremely grateful that we were able to do this together with the armed forces," said Nouri. From the Emmich-Cambrai barracks in Hannover, the Werder players headed to Schneverdingen, where a total of 27 members of the squad will carry out a second training camp, with the first training session taking place on Tuesday morning.
