SV Werder Bremen have signed defender Sebastian Langkamp from fellow Bundesliga side Hertha BSC. Werder's sporting director, Frank Baumann, released the news on Wednesday afternoon. Both clubs agreed that the details of the transfer would remain undisclosed.

"We were on the lookout for an experienced player in defence. Sebastian fits that criteria perfectly. He knows the Bundesliga really well, has experience at an international level and will not need much time to settle in," Frank Baumann explained.

"Sebastian won't just strength the team in a sporting sense because he has shown he has the qualities of a leader in his performances over the years in Berlin. These qualities will be extremely useful for our team now. He is also a really good guy, who will fit perfectly into the squad," head coach Florian Kohfeldt said.

Sebastian Langkamp is excited for the new challenge in Bremen. "I saw last weekend first-hand how strong Werder can be and the support that they get from the stands. I want to get straight into it and help the team to get out of the relegation places as quickly as possible."

Sebastian Langkamp learnt his craft at DJK VfL Billerbeck and moved to SC Preußen Münster as a youngster and then later to the FC Bayern Munich academy. After spells at Hamburger SV, Karlsruher SC and FC augsburg, he moved to Hertha BSC in 2013. The 30-year-old has played 153 games in the Bundesliga and scored six goals.
