SV Werder have drawn 3-3 in a friendly against SV Meppen. Meppen took the lead through Devann Yao (19’) before Aron Johannsson equalised two minutes later. After the break, Ousman Manneh put the Green-Whites ahead (57’) but Meppen turned the game on its head with goals from Yannik Nuxoll (69’) and Marius Kleinsorge (81’). Jerome Gondorf had the final word however, equalising for Werder in the 86th minute.

Line-up and formation: Twelve of the Werder squad are off on international duty. That gave other members of the squad and some U23 players are chance to prove themselves. That was the case for Michael Zetterer, who played in goal, and for Luca Caldirola and Jesper Verlaat who filled the two centre-back positions alongside Lamine Sané. Philipp Bargfrede, Niklas Schmidt and Jerome Gondorf started in midfield and youngsters Thore Jacobsen and Jannes Vollert were deployed on the wings. Aron Johannsson and Fin Bartels were the two strikers.

Post-match reaction

Alexander Nouri: “We created lots of chances against a third division side who put out their best team. It was quite up and down. It was all about match practice for us and understanding more about the way we play. It was important for the players who haven’t had much game time to find their rhythm and get minutes on the board”.
