SV Werder have drawn 2-2 in a friendly against Dutch side SV Heerenveen. After a stuttering first half, in which Werder dominated but struggled to create much pressure going forward, the Green-Whites turned the game on its head in the second half. Pelle van Amersfoort had put his side into the lead in the 23rd minute with a sweetly-struck long range effort but Lamine Sané (69’) and Max Kruse (76’) scored for Florian Kohfeldt’s side to put them in front. Then, with seconds to go, Jordy Bruijn (90’) equalised for Heerenveen.

Line-up and formation: Despite it “only” being a friendly and being without the players on international duty, head coach Florian Kohfeldt put out a strong side. Jaroslav Drobny started in goal with Bauer, Sané, Caldirola and U23 player Thore Jacobsen in defence. In front of them Gondorf and Max Eggestein played in defensive midfield with Junuzovic and Bartels in the attacking midfield positions. Meanwhile Ishak Belfodil and Max Kruse started together up top.

Post-match reaction

Florian Kohfeldt:There were parts of our game today that I thought were really good. It annoys me that we conceded such a late goal again. Irrelevant of whether it is a friendly or in the league, we have to have that winning mentality. We didn’t do great after we conceded the first goal but we did well to come out firing in the second half and got back into the game."
