An action packed weekend of friendly football came to an end with a comfortable 3-0 win for Werder against VfL Osnabrück. The Green-Whites went ahead through two goals in quick succession in the 19th and 21st minutes from Aron Johannsson and Zlatko Junuzovic respectively. Alexander Nouri's side controlled the second half and Yuning Zhang got his first Werder goal in the 84th minute. The one negative to come out of the match was an injury to Johannes Eggestein who had to be substituted a quarter of an hour before the end.

Line-up and formation: Just like in their last few matches, Werder went with a back three from the start. That meant that Ulisses Garcia and Florian Kainz played as wing-backs. The Green-Whites packed the midfield and Johannsson and Eggestein were given license to come inside from the wide forward positions.

Johannsson and Junuzovic strike in quick succession

Highlights:

12' minute: A threat from the home side. Furkan Zorba crosses, but Michael Zetterer just intervenes ahead of Tim Danneberg to clean up the situation.

16' minute: Zlatko Junuzovic plays in Garcia who wins a corner which Osnabrück's keeper Gersbeck allows to bounce, but Werder can't capitalise.

19' minute: 1-0 to Werder! The Green-Whites win the ball back off VfL from a corner and Junuzovic plays in Johannsson who tucks it in the bottom corner.

21' minute: A second for Werder! This time it's Junuzovic's turn to score as he finds himself one-on-one with the keeper and calmly chips it over Gersbeck for 2-0.

34' minute: Lamine Sané receives the ball from Zetterer, but he doesn't see Wriedt coming and has his pocked picked, but Zetterer makes himself big and the ball lands in the side netting.

First goal for Zhang, Eggestein goes off injured

47' minute: Werder have a fast start to the second half. Ulisses Garcia picks up the ball from a diagonal pass and tries his luck, but Gersbeck parries.

51' minute: Florian Kainz's free-kick touches the net, but unfortunately on the wrong side. Very close.

68' minute: Luca Plogmann is tested as suddenly Osnabrück's striker Wriedt runs through on goal, but the young goalie stands tall and saves.

74' minute: After a coming together with Appiah, Johannes Eggestein doesn't get up off the floor in the Osnabrück penalty area. After a short delay, Eggestein is forced off and has to be substituted. Hopefully it's nothing serious.

85' minute: It's a first goal for Yuning Zhang. He's played in and keeps his cool to tuck the ball past Marius Gersbeck and into the corner.

Conclusion: Werder struggled somewhat to find their rhythm early on in the game, but after a good quarter of an hour they began to take control and this led to them taking the lead. The Green-Whites looked as solid as ever defensively, with the exception of the odd individual error. After a testing weekend of friendly matches, the next game isn't until Saturday when Werder go up against St. Pauli.
