53rd minute: Max Kruse gets Werder’s chances up and running in the second half with a beautiful cross into the middle. His corner finds Belfodil in the middle who heads it low but it is cleared of the line by one of the Augsburg defenders.
57th minute: A matter of inches. Eggestein takes the shot on from 20 minutes out. His shot is deflected and is sent spiralling into the air. When it comes down Hitz tips it onto the bar and prevents Werder’s third. So close!
63rd minute: Goal for Augsburg. 1-2, Rani Khedira. The ball in from Philipp Max finds Khedira who heads it back across the face of goal and it nestles into the Werder side netting.
66th minute: With Junuzovic on the pitch, Werder look dangerous again. He crosses in from the left to Gebre Selassie, who finds himself in plenty of space in the middle and should score but his header is too central and Hitz collects. An incredible tempo in the WWK Arena.
69th minute: What. A. Save. Augsburg have a freekick right on the edge of the box, Gregoritsch fires it low but Pavlenka somehow manages to get his fingertips on it to tip it onto the post and away from danger.
72nd minute: The guests are now under pressure but we can always rely on Pavlenka. Baier plays in Max who shoots well to Pavlenka’s left but the keeper does excellently to parry the ball out of danger-
82nd minute: GOOOAAAAALLLLL for Werder, 1-3, Max Kruse! That’s got to be it! Goal-scorer Ishak Belfodil turns assist provider. Belfodil plays it through Khedira’s legs to Kruse in the middle who finishes it well and high into the Augsburg net. Surely that’s the three points secured!
90th minute: All over in Augsburg! Werder beat FCA 1-3 and take the points back to the Weser!
Conclusion: Ten points from the last four games! The Green-Whites show how good they are in the first half with a splendid 45 and then battle well in the second to secure a cital three points. Werder will take huge momentum and confidence going into the internation break on their current run of form and will welcome the Bundesliga’s return with open arms. Regardless of Augsburg’s goal, the victory never really looked in doubt for Kohfeldt and his men and they had an impressive mix of solid defending and attacking flair. Belfodil’s goals at the start and finish of the first half took the wind out of the hosts and then Kruse’s sixth league goal of the season secure the points for the Green-Whites, as they overtake Hannover 96 in the league table.
