After two very different halves, SV Werder and RB Leipzig shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw on Sunday evening. Niklas Moisander’s second of the season gave the Green-Whites a deserved lead in the 28th minute, but the team were punished for not adding to their lead when Ademola Lookman equalised shortly after the break. Both sides had big chances to seal the win late on, but neither did enough to claim all three points. That's ten games unbeaten for Werder at the Weser Stadion and a brief look at the table shows that Werder are mathematically safe from direct relegation. However, the gap ahead of the relegation play-off spot is ten points, with Mainz and Freiburg to play on Monday.

Line-up and formation: Niklas Moisander, who missed the last game through suspension, returned to the starting XI against Leipzig as part of a back four alongside Gebre Selassie, Veljkovic and Friedl. Delaney, Bargfrede and Eggestein made up an unchanged midfield three behind Max Kruse in attack, flanked by captain Zlatko Junuzovic and Milot Rashica.

Moisander quick to react for opener

6th minute: Ilsanker fouls Rashica on the edge of the box in an ideal position for Junuzovic. The Austrian curls the ball over the wall but misses the target by centimeters.

14th minute: Another Junuzovic free kick, another big chance for Werder. This time he crosses the ball in from the left, the ball bounces around the Leipzig penalty area, before the visitors eventually clear for a Werder corner.

19th minute: It’s been all Werder so far, as Rashica and Kruse tee up Gebre Selassie for a strike at goal. The Czech international throws himself forward to meet the ball and his effort is deflected for another corner.

28th minute: GOOOAL for Werder, 1-0 Niklas Moisander! Central defender Moisander is in the right place at the right time to tap the ball into an empty net after Kruse’s strike rattled the crossbar.

41th minute: Gulacsi denies Werder a second with a double save from Rashica and then Junuzovic following a Green-White corner.

45th minute, half time: SVW go into the break with a deserved 1-0 lead. It could have been more, as the hosts had nine shots to Leipzig’s one in the first period.

Lookman pulls Leipzig level

50th minute: Goal for Leipzig, 1-1, Ademola Lookman. Confusion and a lack of communication on the Werder box sees substitute Lookman sweep in and slot home past a helpless Pavenka.

52nd minute: Werder need to be careful not to concede a second here. Werner is played free down the left, cuts into the box and tries to curl one into the top corner. Just wide for the Germany international, but a warning for the Green-Whites to stay alert. Moments later Werner has another chance, but heads the ball just wide of the target.

69th minute: Werder have softened some of Leipzig’s early second-half momentum, but are unable to recapture the same level of control they had in the first half. Forsberg hits the side netting with the visitor’s next chance.

72th minute: Forsberg has another attempt, this time from a set piece. The Swede hits the ball well into the corner, but Pavlenka is alert to punch the ball clear of danger.

85th minute: Lookman plays the ball through to Werner, who breaks 1-on-1 with Pavlenka. The Leipzig forward looks set to snatch victory for his side, but the Bremen’s no.1 stands tall to save Werner’s shot with his outstretched left foot.

87th minute: Werder have a big chance to win the game at the other end. Belfodil breaks past Orban on the right side of the box and strikes towards goal. Gulacsi saves well and the ball breaks for Moisander, again with an open net, but he heads just wide.

90th minute: Full time at the Weser-Stadion. Werder and RB Leipzig share the points with a 1-1 draw.

Summary
In the end, the draw was a more than fair result. Werder were by far the better team in the first half, as Leipzig looked like they were still shaking off their midweek defeat to Marseille. The Green-Whites failed to add to Moisander’s opener, which proved a costly mistake. Lookman leveled for the visitors and neither side was able to do enough to win the game, with both goalkeepers keeping their cool late on with some big saves.
