The dozen is complete. Werder remain unbeaten in the Weserstadion! Kohfeldt takes his tally to 12 consecutive games at home unbeaten. This time round however, it required an out-of-this-world performance by keeper Jiri Pavlenka to keep the Champions League-hopefuls at bay. The 1-1 draw to Dortmund was hard-earned but well-deserved. The Green-Whites had to fight back in front of a sold-out 42,100 strong crowd in the Weserstadion, after Marco Reus got the opener in the 19th minute. Thomas Delaney was the man to get the equaliser shortly before the break with a wonderful header. Pavlenka had a mammoth second half to keep out Reus, Akanji and Schürrle with numerous impressive saves (15’, 43’, 65’, 69’, 79’, 86’), earning Werder an important point.

Line-up and formation: Florian Kohfeldt made five changes to the side from last week, as Kainz and Bargfrede sat out with suspension, Moisander was unavailable due to a slight thigh injury and Belfodil and Friedl were rotated to the bench. Therefore Ludwig Augustinsson made his comeback on the left-hand side of defence, with Langkamp replacing Moisander in the middle. Veljkovic and Gebre Selassie took up their usual positions, in front of Pavlenka in the Green-White goal. In midfield, Delaney returned in the centre alongside Maximillian Eggestein and captain Junuzovic. On the wings were Milot Rashica and Jerome Gondorf with Max Kruse heading up the Werder attack.

Pavlenka and Delaney bring Werder back into play

Match highlights:

11th minute: Reus’s trickery puts Piszczek through in a dangerous position in Werder’s box but Veljkovic is able to block, preventing the effort from reaching Werder’s goal.

15th minute: This time it is Akanji who sets Pulisic up in the box. Pavlenka however makes a smart reaction save to prevent the Borussia player.

19th minute: Goal for BVB. Marco Reus. Piszczek heads Götze’s effort into a threatening area. Philipp pounces on it. His effort gets blocked but the rebound falls straight to Reus who makes no mistake, putting it neatly past Pavlenka. 1-0 BVB.

24th minute: Achh, good pair of chances for the Green-Whites. Augustinsson draws a good save out of Burki and then moments later Junuzovic does the same! Kruse also volleys a good ball across but fires his effort goes just wide of the far post.

43rd minute:PAVLENKA with a huge save! Götze sends Reus in brilliantly with a well-threaded through ball leaving the German one on one with the Green-White keeper. Jiri however is not going to be beaten this time and makes a wonderful save to push the ball wide of the post.

45th minute: GOOOOOAAAALLLLLLL!!! 1-1! Delaney gets it! A high ball comes into the penalty area, which Gondorf meets but Toprak rises higher and clears. Eggestein however latches onto the clearances and sends the ball in to around the penalty spot where Delaney is waiting. He spots Burki off his line and loops it over the keeping with a powerful header.

45 + 2 minutes: Half time in the Weserstadion. Werder with the momentum.

BVB pile on the pressure but SVW are up to the challenge

52nd minute: Why not try again! Eggestein has two efforts from range in quick succession. Burki in the Dortmund goal however is not fazed by the efforts.

65th minute: Huge chance for BVB but Werder have the post on their side. Sancho plays Reus in brilliantly but Langkamp gets something on his shot, diverting it onto the post and away from danger.

69th minute: Akanji dances past Langkamp and then gives it a go from 15 metres out. Jiri Pavlenka however does wonderfully to stop the effort.

77th minute: Just centimetres is all that stops Werder from taking the lead as Burki watches Kruse's effort roll by his far post.

79th minute: It’s impossible to describe how well Pavlenka is playing! This time he parries Schürrle's effort, who found himself in too much space in the Werder box. Luck is on Werder’s side though, as Sancho is unable to turn the rebound goalwards.

84th minute: Piszczek nearly turns into his own net! Kruse’s dangerous cross across the front of goal is nearly turned in as Piszczek sticks out a leg but it ends up just going wide of Dortmund post.

86th minute: Pavlenka simply unbelievable. This time he parries Schürrle’s header from close range and surely guarantees Werder the point.

90 + 4 minutes: THAT’S IT! Werder have stood up to the pressure but keep the wonderful unbeaten home record going and earn themselves a wonderful point against Borussia Dortmund.

Conclusion: Champions League-hopefuls Dortmund were kept to a point in the Weserstadion as the Green-Whites proved that every centimetre really does count. Werder had to rely on a stellar performance from their keeper this evening as he saved them on numerous occasions. In the first half however, Werder looked dangerous with Rashica, Junuzovic and Augustinsson linking up well, offering a way out and something going forward. Thomas Delaney scored at just the right time for the Green-Whites, completely changing Kohfeldt’s half time team talk. Werder played with bravery in the second half to keep out Peter Stöger’s XI, as their chances in the 65th, 69th, 79th and 86th minute were all squandered. The last word has to go to Jiri Pavlenka who was immense between the sticks this evening, earning his team a vital point in the Weserstadion.
