Another young Werder talent has signed a professional contract on their 18th birthday. This time it’s goalkeeper Luca Plogmann, as confirmed by sporting director Frank Baumann on Saturday afternoon.
“Luca Plogmann is one of the best goalkeepers at his age in the whole of Germany. He’s got used to senior football thanks to participating in team training with the Bundesliga squad regularly over the last few months. We’re really excited about his potential and we’re confident that he can make the step up to the Bundesliga level successfully,” says Baumann.
Thomas Wolter, director of the Werder academy, supported this view: “It’s been a joy to see Luca Plogmann’s development over the last few years. He was a consistent figure in all of the teams he represented and really showed off his fantastic footballing talent.”
The Bremen born Plogmann is really looking forward to what the future holds. “I’m really happy to have signed my first professional contract at Werder. The contract shows the confidence that the club has in me and my performances to date. Now I have to keep on working hard to achieve my ultimate goal of playing in the Bundesliga.”
Luca Plogmann has played for Werder Bremen since 2006. Since then, the 18-year-old has represented every single age group for the Green-Whites. The friendly against Osnabrück last autumn was the first time that he wore the gloves for the first team. In the current season, the goalkeeper has made 19 appearances for the Werder Under-19s in the A-Junior-Bundesliga. He also took part in the Under-17 World Cup last year and played in all of Germany’s games.
