SV Werder Bremen parted ways with head coach Alexander Nouri and his assistant Markus Feldhoff on Monday morning. The decision was reached by the club management following intensive talks on Sunday evening. Nouri was informed of the decision on Monday morning ahead of training. The 38-year-old then said his goodbyes to the team.

Preparations for the upcoming Bundesliga game against Eintracht Frankfurt this coming Friday will be led by Werder’s current U23s coach Florian Kohfeldt. He will be supported by current assistant coach Thomas Horsch and U17s assistant coach Tim Borowski. “We are convinced that this group of coaches can provide some much needed impetus over the coming days. Hopefully that can rid the insecurity felt among the players, which is palpable following recent results,” said sporting director Frank Baumann, who went on to thank Nouri for his work. “Alex took on a very difficult task last season and did a fantastic job. He has our thanks for that. He has all the qualities of a successful coach, and I’m sure that he will continue his path with success elsewhere.”

Florian Kohfeldt already has some Bundesliga experience having worked in Viktor Skripnik’s coaching setup between 2014 and 2016. He then took over the role of U23s coach, leading them to safety in the 3. Liga. The 35-year-old gained his DFB coaching badges in 2015, finishing top of his class. “Florian has a great reputation here and has shown himself to be a smart, diligent and creative coach, who is well capable of leading a team. He has our complete confidence for this big challenge. He will be one of the candidates that we will be considering to fill the role on a permanent basis over the coming days,” said Baumann. The sporting director has stated that a new head coach should be reached during the international break.

During this period, the U23s will be coached by Mirko Votava, who will be assisted by Werder veteran Rafael Kazior. The former first-team player coached the Green-Whites’ U19s for 13 years and recently worked alongside Florian Kohfeldt with the U23s.
