Kevin Möhwald was announced as Werder’s first new signing for the coming season a week ago. On Thursday, the 24 year old passed his medical, before having a look around the Weserstadion with a huge grin on his face. “The stadium is fantastic,” said the new Green-White, who took the time to sit down with WERDER.DE and WERDER.TV to discuss the reasons for his move, his targets and the World Cup.

WERDER.DE: Moin Kevin, welcome to SV Werder. You had your medical today, how was it?

Kevin Möhwald:
“Until now, the feedback has only been positive (laughs). Everything was relatively relaxed, so I can say everything went well.”

WERDER.DE: Is this your first time at the Weserstadion? How do you like your new city and stadium?

Kevin Möhwald:
“I’ve visited Bremen four times. My first time here at the Weserstadion was as a 13 year old and I’ve been to Bremen to look for somewhere to live. Until now, my impression of the city and the stadium has only been positive.”

WERDER.DE: You've transferred from 1. FC Nürnberg, who were promoted to the top flight this season. Did you have to think long when Werder's offer came?

Kevin Möhwald:
“Honestly, I didn’t have to think long about whether to move or not. But the interest from Werder came and it was clear to me – if I were to move, it would only be to Werder. The talks with the management really convinced me and I’m sure that a lot can be achieved in the next few years.”

WERDER.DE: Werder’s sporting director, Frank Baumann, also transfered from Nürnberg to the Green-Whites in 1999. Have you both already spoken about that?

Kevin Möhwald:
“Of course, we’ve spoken about a lot and also about that. Frank Baumann obviously said that a move from Nürnberg to Bremen already worked out very well once before (laughs).”

WERDER.DE: What were the main reasons for your move here?

Kevin Möhwald:
“Definitely the talks with the management. I want to build on more successful times here. In the second half of last season, Werder proved, in my opinion, that they’re going in the right direction again, so I wanted the move. When I was in talks with Werder, I was hooked straight way.”

WERDER.DE: You were one of Nürnberg’s top performers last season with seven goals in 31 games. What role do you see yourself having at Werder? What are your personal goals?

Kevin Möhwald:
“First of all, I want to start well and integrate myself into the team. I also want to bring my footballing qualities. My personal goal is to get as many appearances as possible and become important to the team. To do that, I’ll be giving my all from July 2nd.”

WERDER.DE: What do you think SVW can achieve next season?

Kevin Möhwald:
“We shouldn’t talk about positions in the table. I think, we should presume that we will continue and improve on the path that was forged over the last half a year. I think that the right steps have been made and I’m looking forward to being able to join this journey.”

WERDER.DE: What do you expect of your new coach, Florian Kohfeldt?

Kevin Möhwald:
“From what I know of him and have seen of him so far, he values footballing quality a lot. His playing style is one I like a lot. Of course, I hope he can develop me further as a player, because I believe that my development still hasn’t finished and that I can still improve my footballing ability here.”

WERDER.DE: What are your private plans from now until July?

Kevin Möhwald:
“I’m still looking for places to live in Bremen and have to sort out a few things. Then, I’ll go on holiday for a week or two. I still haven’t chosen a destination; I do that quite last-minute, but I’ll go somewhere sunny to get a break from everyday life.”

WERDER.DE: At this time of year, the World Cup is obviously a hot topic. How will you follow the tournament and who is your favourite?

Kevin Möhwald:
“I’ll probably watch every game of the World Cup, just because I’m football crazy (laughs). I’m obviously supporting Germany, but I think there are a few teams that can challenge them - Brazil, France and Spain, for example. I hope it’ll be a good tournament with entertaining football and a good atmosphere to make it fun to watch.”

WERDER.DE: “And finally, Kevin. What are you looking forward to most of all at Werder?

Kevin Möhwald:
“I know from my visits before that the atmosphere here at the Weserstadion is simply incredible. I’m really looking forward to that and of course, the adventure of the Bundesliga. I’m looking forward to the fans, the club and the season.”
