+++ Bargfrede holding: After a lacklustre first 45 minutes against Wolfsburg, SVW were much more convincing in the second period. An important factor in this change was the introduction of Philipp Bargfrede. His performance was highlighted and praised by his coach Alexander Nouri after the game: “Bargi was very active, he went into an incredible amount of tackles and pursued the opposition. He gave us a very important impulse.” The statistics also support what Nouri had said about the Green-Whites’ number 44 - his pass success rate was 96% and he won many more tackles than the team average. +++

+++ Aerial prowess: In the clash with VfL Wolfsburg, Fin Bartels celebrated a very special first. After 145 games in the top flight of German football and 26 goals with his feet, the forward found the back of the net with his head for the first time. “I wasn’t aware of that stat, but I would’ve rather scored with my feet and won the match,” noted Bartels after the final whistle. +++

+++ Starting XI: Alexander Nouri was forced into making two changes to his starting formation on Tuesday. In attack, Max Kruse had to be replaced after breaking his collarbone at the weekend, so Florian Kainz started in a more advanced role in his place, while Jerome Gondorf slotted in for Kainz in midfield. For Ishak Belfodil, it was too soon for him to make an appearance in the starting XI. “He wasn’t ready for 90 minutes. Managing our player’s workload is important to us and is working very well this year,” said Nouri, hinting at the few muscle injuries his players have suffered so far this season. The second change was to replace Lamine Sané in defence (knee problems) with Luca Caldirola. The Italian would have, however, started the game, irrespective of the Senegalese’s fitness. “It was discussed,” said Nouri. “Luca was aggressive on his man and did ok.” +++
