+++ He made things happen: It was the last kick of the game against 1. FC Köln. Ludwig Augustinsson drove into the area and shot. But the Swede’s strike went wide of the post and so the match away to the Billy Goats ended goalless. “Obviously it’s not a great feeling. It was a big opportunity and I was disappointed that I couldn’t convert it to help the team. I was still playing the moment over in my head after the game but there’s no time to be downbeat. We need to look forward now. We have our next chance to win on Wednesday,” Werder’s number five said. With nine crosses, the left-back put the most balls into the box in the game. Augustinsson was not only a big presence on the wing but he also made numerous runs into the box during the game too. Is it because of the system? “Many teams know our 3-5-2 formation. Therefore it is good that we have alternatives. We played with four at the back in the second half against Gladbach and started with that formation in Cologne. I think it was a good system for us. We had more control, created more chances and I had more freedom to get further forward. We need to build on that now,” the summer signing said to WERDER.DE. +++

+++ Full steam ahead: The Green-White team bus returned back from Cologne late on Sunday evening. But for the Werder boys, there was only time for a short pit stop at home, since the team along with returnee Max Kruse began their preparations for the cup tie against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Just before 10 o’clock, the squad were already out training under the watchful eyes of Werder head coach Alexander Nouri, in a week which sees two games in five days. The team will then have an open training session before the DFB-Pokal match at 11am on Tuesday morning. No time to stop for breath, it’s time for hard work. +++

+++ Brotherly love: Werder missed the chance to relieve the pressure on themselves against Köln but for two Green-Whites, the game was something very special. It was the first time in the Bundesliga that the Eggestein brothers, Maximilian and Johannes, played on the pitch together. The boss brought Johannes on in the 60th minute, giving him a chance to play in the Bundesliga alongside his older brother for half an hour. +++

+++ Cup tie: On Wednesday, for the first time in almost two years, Werder will have a DFB-Pokal clash at the Weserstadion. SV Werder will face against TSG Hoffenheim in the second round of the DFB-Pokal in front of a sell-out home crowd. The match between the Green-Whites and the team from Kraichgau will kick off at 20:45 CEST. +++
