Debutant: A dream came true for Johannes Eggestein at the weekend when the 19-year-old played his first competitive match for SV Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. “I’m delighted to have made my debut for the first team, even if it blemished by was a loss,” explained the attacker after the final whistle, who has played for the Green-Whites since 2013. The Hannover-born forward was substituted on for Fin Bartels in the 84th minute against Germany’s record champions. In addition to the opponents, something else was special for ‘Jojo’ Eggestein: “It was very special for me to make my debut in the Weser-Stadion; it wasn’t so important who the opponents were. I’ll keep working hard to get more game time.”

Home country vs. adopted home country: It could be his 44th cap for the Czech Republic. On Friday (1st September), Theodor Gebre Selassie will represent the Czech Republic in Prague in their match against Germany. Gebre Selassie knows that this match is anything other than a formality, as he revealed in an interview with Kicker magazine: “We need every point we can get to qualify. Obviously, we’re not the favourites – we need to have some luck on our side and make use of our home advantage.” As well as the upcoming match against Germany, Gebre Selassie also spoke on about the rise of the youngsters in the Czech team as well as Jiri Pavlenka’s opportunity to become the Czech Republic’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Nouri says: “Always going to the changing room together doesn’t make you a team; treating each other with respect makes you a team,” said head coach Alexander Nouri recently in a sport debate on German radio station Deutschlandfunk. Discussing the topic of how a team works, Nouri looked back to the previous season, his own sporting career and this summer’s pre-season.
