In the quiet hills of Algorfa, the Werder players and staff were greeted with the perfect facilities for a successful training camp. “It was very important to me that we came somewhere quiet to help us focus on what we were there to do. We were able to have lots of 1-on-1 discussions with the players and also analyse how we’ve been getting on by using the video playback facilities they had,” said Kohfeldt. In the eyes of the coach, every player made use of the chance that the training camp gave them, as he praised their willingness to employ all of the facilities that they had at their disposal.
The only slight downsides to the week in Spain were the injuries that lead to the cancellation of the friendly against Royal Antwerp. “The injuries are not too bad and came at a time when we had already worked on all the important things. Every player was able to take part in the tactical sessions,” emphasised Kohfeldt, who came across as optimistic. “Even though each injury has to be evaluated individually, I’m hopeful that every player will be available for the game against Hoffenheim,” said Kohfeldt.
In the case of Thomas Delaney, that will ‘almost certainly” be true. The Dane picked up a knock to his calf, although luckily came away with no structural damage. While the coaches think an Ishak Belfodil return on Tuesday is “highly likely,” however, Aron Jóhannsson must wait and see how his knee injury progresses.
