Florian Kohfeldt will continue as head coach of SV Werder Bremen after the winter break. Sporting director Frank Baumann and Florian Kohfeldt confirmed that on Monday evening. “Irrelevant of the result in the DFB-Pokal tie against SC Freiburg, we have seen the development of the team that we wanted to see and we want to give Florian Kohfeldt the opportunity to continue his work in the long term. It has to be the target now to secure our safety from relegation and to continue the team’s development in the coming season. We hope that we can have a long-term cooperation,” Baumann said, but he didn’t explain the length of his contract. Previously, the SV Werder Bremen management and the board of directors agreed on continuing to work with the 35-year-old coach.

Kohfeldt is happy about the positive reception he's received since taking the reigns at Werder Bremen and wants to push on: "We have a team full of potential and we want to show that consistently in the second half of the season. By winning in the DFB-Pokal against SC Freiburg, we can do that and give ourselves a platform to build upon heading into 2018. I'm excited to carry on what we've started here with the squad, the coaching team and all the backroom staff", said the head coach.

Florian Kohfeldt took charge of his first training session on 31st October 2017. The management team and the board of directors have come to an agreement that the former Green-Whites U23s coach should oversee the remainder of the Bundesliga season as Werder head coach.
