Omen: The “Old Lady” are the team against which Werder celebrated their last Bundesliga win. Goals from Max Kruse and Fin Bartels led the Green-Whites to a 2-0 home victory on the 31st matchday of the last campaign. All Green-Whites will be hoping they'll be celebrating the first points of the campaign come Sunday evening.

Sunday form: This match against Hertha BSC will give the Green-Whites the chance to finally get their form in Sunday games back on track, as Werder lost five of their six Sunday matches in the 2016/17 season. However, one of the most important games of the season was indeed won on a Sunday – the Nordderby against Hamburger SV. Max Kruse and Florian Kainz got on the scoresheet that day in a 2-1 victory.
