Martin Harnik is returning to Werder Bremen. The 30-year-old moves from Hannover 96 back to the Weser. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the details of the transfer.

“We are very happy to have Martin back at Werder Bremen. He is a player who immediately strengthens the squad and who needs very little time to settle in because he knows the club’s structure and environment very well”, said sporting director, Frank Baumann.

“With his pace and experience, he opens up a lot of attacking options. Martin has repeatedly proven his quality over the last few years in both the league and for the Austria national team.  I am very pleased to have him with us”, explained Florian Kohfeldt.

Harnik himself is looking forward to his return to the Weser. “With this move I have done a full circle. Bremen is where I became a professional and now almost ten years later I’m back where it all began. During that time, I’ve never lost contact with the club and have always followed Werder’s progress. I’m very excited to play in front of the fans at the Weser-Stadion once again.”

Martin Harnik moved to Bremen in 2005 from SC Vier- und Marschlande’s Youth team and wore the Green-White jersey until 2009. After a season-long loan at Fortuna Düsseldorf, he transferred to VfB Stuttgart (2010-2016) and finally to Hannover 96. The Hamburg-born striker has played 220 Bundesliga games (62 goals) and 60 second-division games (30 goals). Harnik announced  his retirement from international football last year after 68 caps and 15 goals for Austria.
