Marco Friedl is Werder’s first signing of the January window! The 19-year-old landed in Bremen on Wednesday evening, before completing the obligatory medical on Thursday morning and finally putting pen to paper on a loan deal that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2019. And in the afternoon, he took part in his first training session with his new teammates. The Austria youth international took the time to speak to WERDER.DE after his very long day.
WERDER.DE: Marco, we wish you a very warm welcome to SV Werder Bremen! You’ve just signed your contract. How excited are you about the switch?
Marco Friedl: “I’m extremely excited and relieved. The people that I’ve got to know over my short time of being here have all been really nice. The last few days have been stressful, so I’m happy to be here now.”
WERDER.DE: You trained regularly with the first team at FC Bayern, but mainly played with the Under-23s. What goals have you set yourself for your time here?

Marco Friedl: “I want to develop as a person, play even better and above all, help the team to win. We want to win as many games as possible in the Rückrunde and finish the season as best we can.”
WERDER.DE: Last Sunday, your new teammates played against your old ones. How did you follow the game?
Marco Friedl: “I watched the game of course! I thought that Werder played extremely well. They kept Bayern in check very well up until the point at which it was 2-2. It was fun to see how well the side played.
WERDER.DE: So apart from the result on Sunday, what do you know otherwise about Werder Bremen?
Marco Friedl: “I know that the team has a lot of potential and don’t belong in the part of the table that they find themselves in now. I feel confident that we can do a lot better in this half of the season.”
WERDER.DE: There’s not long now until the next Bundesliga game. Can you still contribute on Saturday?
Marco Friedl: “I trained with the team for the first time this afternoon, but in the case of Saturday, I’m obviously not in a position to comment. I’ll have to wait and see over the next few days and see what the coach decides to do.”
