SV Werder Bremen will face SC Freiburg in the round of 16 of the DFB Pokal. The draw was made on Sunday evening by Stefan Effenberg and Peter Frymuth (the DFB president). For the Green-Whites, another home game is on the cards after beating 1899 Hoffenheim 1-0 in the previous round.
Until now, there has only been one encounter between SC Freiburg and SV Werder in the DFB Cup. In the 2000/01 season, SVW were beaten 1-0 away from home in the second round. For Max Kruse, the encounter will be a reunion with his former team. "It is obviously hard to think about the Cup after today's game against Augsburg. However, we have a home game which is nice for our fans. We're looking forward to the match shortly before Christmas and hope to still be in the competition after winter," said the Green-Whites' number 10.
Captain Zlatko Junuzovic had this to say about the draw after the match against FCA: "The draw is absolutely secondary after the 3-0 loss. But we accept the game and will try to do exactly what we did against Hoffenheim - make it to the next round."
