Werder will face Bayer 04 Leverkusen in this season’s DFB-Pokal quarterfinal. The draw was made on Sunday evening 7th January by hosts Oliver Roggisch (former Germany handball international) and Horst Hrubesch (DFB sporting director). The tie against Leverkusen will be played on either the 6th or 7th February 2018.
The fixture is a repeat of the DFB-Pokal quarterfinals in 2016, when the Green-Whites travelled to Leverkusen, won 3-1 and booked their place in the semi-finals.

Frank Baumann: "It’s a tough draw and unfortunately it’s not at home, but we will take this challenge head on and give everything to progress."
Theodor Gebre Selassie: "Two years ago, we saw that anything is possible. We will carry this experience with us into the game, but we know that it will be very difficult."
Milos Veljkovic: "I have particularly fond memories of our last cup tie against Leverkusen: That was my first ever appearance for Werder when I came off the bench. I hope we can have a repeat of that win. Even though it’s never easy away from home, I think we have a good chance. We’ll go into the game with confidence."
