Fin Bartels will continue to wear the Green-White colours of SV Werder Bremen for the foreseeable future after the club and player took up the option to extend the 31-year-old’s contract until 2020.
"Together with Fin we have decided to extend his contract early to ensure he will be at the club until at least 2020. We want this to set an example. Fin is a very important player for us and he’ll continue to be a face of this team. On top of that, it gives both us and him some security after his injury," explained Frank Baumann, Werder’s sporting director.
"It’s no secret that my family and I feel very happy here in Bremen. I’ve always emphasised that, so I’m happy about this decision. For me the priority now is to get fit again and then from next season I want to contribute to the positive steps Werder has taken and keep moving forward with this team," told Fin Bartels.
Head coach Florian Kohfeldt is also delighted that the 31-year-old has extended his contract. “Fin has made his mark at SV Werder in recent years and has always proven how important he is to us with his quality and experience. For that reason, I’m delighted that he will continue to be a part of our team in the coming years."
Fin Bartels joined the club from FC St. Pauli in 2014. He has made 104 Bundesliga appearances and scored 22 goals. The 31-year-old is currently recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon and will likely not return to action until the 2018/19 season.
