Luca Zander will spend the next two seasons on loan at FC St. Pauli. The 21-year-old, who featured for the U23 SV Werder side last season, is likely to be given more game time at the second-tier club from Hamburg. The news was revealed by Frank Baumann, Werder’s sporting director, on Monday afternoon.

Zander made 31 appearances last season for the SV Werder U23s, who managed to avoid relegation on the final day of the 3. Liga season. Zander, who has been with the club since he was a youth player, is taking the next step in his career. “We have a lot of competition for the full-back positions. We are very much hoping that Luca will get regular game-time at FC. St. Pauli and will be able to get match practice at a very high level to allow him to take the next step in his development,” explained Baumann.

Luca Zander has been at SV Werder since 2006. He made his Bundesliga debut in the 2015/2016 season. Zander has featured twice for the Green-Whites in the German top flight. He has made a total of 61 appearances for SVW U23 team.
