Werder fans can already start marking this pre-season highlight in their diaries! SV Werder Bremen have confirmed they will be participating in the “Telekom Cup” in the summer of 2017 for the second time in the club’s history. The competition, which is running for the ninth year, takes place on 15/07/2017 at BORUSSIA-PARK in Mönchengladbach. Current champions Bayern Munich, Borussia Mönchengladbach and 1899 Hoffenheim will accompany Werder at the tournament.
“The Telekom Cup will be a challenge for us and something for the fans to look forward to as our preparations for next season get underway,” said sporting director Frank Baumann. Werder featured in the tournament for the first time back in 2012, then called the “Liga total! Cup,” when they secured the title thanks to victories over Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, beating the latter on penalties in the final.
Four matches will be played in total: two semi-finals, a third-place playoff and then the final. Each match lasts 45 minutes. There will be no extra-time in the event of a draw, with penalties instead deciding the winner. The matches and kick-off times are yet to be confirmed.
