Werder have hardly had time to digest their bitter defeat to 1. FSV Mainz 05 as their fifth Bundesliga matchday tie against VfL Wolfsburg is this Saturday (18.30 CEST) - just three days after their midweek game against Mainz. However, the team won’t give up. Fritz, Gnabry and Co. want to take as many positives out of Wednesday’s game as possible to finally get their first win of the season. “You have to be able to deal with defeats like these and get stronger from them,” said Nouri. “The team has to stand back up, that’s important,” commented captain Clemens Fritz while Florian Grillitsch said wisely, you have to “take the positives from the game but also analyse the negatives.”

... the last Saturday evening game at the Weser-Stadion was a while ago. Two years ago to be precise, on the 8th of November, 2014 - the match ended in a 2-0 victory for the Green-Whites against VfB Stuttgart.

... Wolfsburg’s top scorer doesn’t have good memories of his last game in Bremen. Daniel Divadi, who has scored two of Wolfsburg’s three goals this season, was wearing a VfB Stuttgart shirt in his last outing at the Weser-Stadion. In that spectacular game, Divadi levelled the scores at 1-1 but in the second half had to be subbed off due to a injury. The game finished 6-2 to Werder and VfB were relegated that season.

... Wolfsburg aren’t in great form. After a 2-0 win against FC Augsburg on the opening day, the Wolves haven’t managed to win any of their other Bundesliga games. In their last game they succumbed to Dortmund 5-1 at home.

On the 30th matchday of last season, the Green-Whites managed to put an end to a six game losing run against the Wolves with a 3-2 win. This victory was also a milestone for Werder on their way to retaining their topflight status. And did you also know,
