Despite the brilliant run of seven games on the trot without defeat, nobody at Werder is speaking about Europe. Nouri is urging everyone to stay grounded, especially as his side has little time to refresh their legs. Indeed the Green-Whites take on Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday, 7th April at 20:30 CEST. This fine run of form has seen the Green-Whites close the gap on their next opponents.

The following summarises how many points Werder have gained on Frankfurt since matchday 20, why Kovac’s XI will particularly need to watch out for Max Kruse and how little difference there is between the two teams in terms of their position in the table ahead of this clash.

Did you know, that…

… Werder are right on Frankfurt’s tails? Eintracht Frankfurt were 19 points ahead of the Green-Whites back on matchday 20. SGE had 35 points at that time while the Green-Whites were in 16th place. Seven matchdays later, SV Werder have clawed their way back and are on 35 points, whereas Frankfurt are now just two points ahead.

… Claudio Pizarro and Niko Kovac used to play with each other? Both men were sporting the FC Bayern München shirt between 2001 and 2003. They won the double together in 2003, coming out on top in the league and the DFB Cup. They then went down different paths as the current Frankfurt coach made the move to Hertha.

… Max Kruse can’t stop scoring? The SVW forward not only scored his 50th Bundesliga goal on Tuesday night, it was also the third time that he has been involved in two goals in a match this season. First, he converted from the penalty spot. Then, he set up Maximilian Eggestein as the youngster headed in his first ever Bundesliga goal. Kruse has been in excellent form and Frankfurt should be warned.

… Eintracht are struggling for goals at the moment? The team from the Rheinhessen have managed to score just once in their last eight matches. Frankfurt have gone as long as four matches and 439 minutes without finding the target. Eintracht’s top goalscorers, Alexander Meier and Branimir Hrgota, have five goals each. Let’s hope that goal drought does not end against Werder…

… both sides’ position in the table could not be much different ahead of this duel? Whilst SV Werder have picked up 19 points from a possible 21 in their last seven matches, Eintracht Frankfurt are without a win in eight games and they lost 1-0 against 1. FC Köln in their most recent encounter. No other team has failed to register a win during that period.

… both teams love beating each other? Werder have won on 40 occasions against Frankfurt, registering more victories only against VFL Bochum (41 times). However SGE also love to beat Werder, who are in fact their favourite opponents, with 34 wins against SVW. Eintracht have not beaten any other team more times. We would not advise betting on a draw...
