Go in brave for the season finale

Dortmund preview

preliminary report
Thursday, 18.05.2017 / 13:40

Werder Bremen go into the final game of 2016/17 Bundesliga season against Dortmund with excitement and Alex Nouri’s team will be fully motivated ahead of the trip to the side currently third in the league. Both teams want only one thing from Matchday 34, a victory! While Werder need a win and some help from other teams to finish in the Europa League placings, Dortmund are looking to secure third place and an automatic passage into the group stage of next season’s Champions League. “Of course we want to put everything out there to get the winner. If that doesn’t mean Europa League at the end then we still know we have played some fantastic football in the second half of the season,” said Max Kruse during Thursday’s press conference. The fact that the upcoming task is anything but easy is not lost Alexander Nouri: “Dortmund have all the attributes of a top, top team. We will have to be on our game to get something and be brave.”

Did you know...

...Werder Bremen can set a new goal record this weekend? The Green-Whites have failed to score in only two Bundesliga games this season. Along with Hoffenheim that is a league best. Werder have scored 37 goals in the second half of the season, a record only bettered by Bayern. In Dortmund Werder will have the opportunity to score their 1,200th away goal - definitely something no Werder fan would ever object to.

...about the history of an exciting duel? Only Bayern have beaten Dortmund more times than Bremen. Werder have won 40 of the 97 clashes dating right back to the first ever Bundesliga matchday in 1963/64, when the Green-Whites won 3-2. Dortmund have a strong record against Werder too, though, and have only record more Bundesliga win in total against Frankfurt.

...that Werder could end a losing streak this coming weekend?
Dortmund have won 10 of the past 11 meetings with Bremen, the only exception coming in 2014/15 when Werder won 2-1.

...Gebre Selassie is becoming an aerial powerhouse?
The Czech player has scored four of his five goals this season with his head. In total, seven of his 12 Bundesliga goals have come with his head. Only Mario Gomez and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have scored more this season (six).

...almost all outfield players have scored this season? In total 18 different players have found the net for Werder this season. The Green-Whites are now chasing their record from 2007/08 when 20 different players got on the scoresheet throughout the course of the campaign.

...that Werder have had a very respectable season? Under Nouri Kruse, Junuzovic and Co. have picked up more points than in the previous six seasons and the reward was an early survival from relegation. Nouri’s record at Werder stands at 13 wins, six draws and 11 defeats.
