Thomas Delaney sustained a concussion and midfacial fractures on his cheekbone in the match against Mainz 05. The diagnosis came after extensive examinations in hospital on Saturday evening. The Danish international will remain in Mainz until Monday, before returning to Bremen via train.

“We have to wait and see how Thomas feels and how he progresses with his recovery over the next few days, but we will not take any risks. As it stands he will not be available to us on Friday,” said chief executive Frank Baumann. Delaney collided with Mainz’ Jhon Córdoba in the 51st minute and was forced off as a result of the clash.
