The countdown to the second half of the season has been underway since Werder returned from their winter training camp. Despite there being a good week before the return to Bundesliga action against Borussia Dortmund, some of the Werder players remain doubtful for the clash. WERDER.DE gives an update on the injured players

The news is not good for Zlatko Junuzovic concerning the game against Borussia Dortmund. “Junu has pulled his calf muscle. We hope that he can return to full fitness as soon as possible, but it will be a tight call as to whether he makes it for the Dortmund game,” explained head coach Alexander Nouri, who was also missing five other players from the final training session before the friendly game against Braunschweig.

Although Justin Eilers completed an individual training session, Florian Grillitsch could not take any part. The Austrian is having his shoulder examined by a specialist. “He wants to get a second opinion which we support. Unfortunately, we are unable to say when he will be able to return,” according to Nouri. Philipp Bargfrede’s return date is also unclear, but Werder’s head coach indicated that the Green-Whites’ number 44 is slowly improving.

Things are looking better for Lamine Sané and Aron Jóhannsson. “Lamine felt something in his thigh muscle and we don’t want to risk him for the Dortmund game. He should return to training either at the start or during the middle of the week.” The same applies for Jóhannsson. The USA international received a knock to his calf on Thursday and was forced to miss training on Friday with the slight problem. “He will be out for two to three days,” announced Nouri.
