The Green-Whites contested their second game of the day in Marbella, following the 1-1 draw to Karlsruher SC earlier in the day. The result this time round against Club Brugge was exactly the same. The Belgian side were slightly more dominant in the opening 45 minutes, but Werder held the upper hand in the second half and went into the lead through Jojo Eggestein (81’). Lex Immers (85’) then equalised late on for Brugge. Having played out two draws, the Werder squad will leave their training camp in Spain tomorrow morning and head back to Bremen.

Line-up: Alexander Nouri selected eleven new players from the day’s earlier game and also employed a new formation. Having played a 3-4-1-2 system against Karlsruher SC, Nouri opted for a more traditional back-four against Brugge. Ahead of Jaroslav Drobny in goal were Gebre Selassie, Veljkovic, Moisander and Ulisses Garcia. Maxmilian Eggestein and Zlatko Junuzovic occupied the two defensive midfield positions, with the latter forced off the pitch after 20 minutes after complaining of a calf problem. Niklas Schmidt replaced the midfielder. Justin Eilers made his long-awaited debut on the left for the Green-Whites following a long-term injury, with Fin Bartels taking up a position on the right. Max Kruse played just off striker Ousman Manneh.

Match reaction

Alexander Nouri: "Obviously we would have liked to win the game, but the result comes second when it comes to friendlies. What is more important for us, is to know where we are as a team and that we give players time out on the pitch. We were obviously a bit unfortunate that Juno had to be taken off. However, I was really happy with our performances in both of the games today."

Johannes Eggestein: "It feels great to get on the scoresheet, but I'm annoyed that we could only draw at the end. In the future, we have to be able to run down the clock and see the game out in those situations."
