Werder beat Meppen 2-0 in their opening friendly of the

Herzlake training camp. Johannes Eggestein and Sambou Yatabare were on the

scoresheet. Lamine Sané made his debut in the game, with Aron Jóhannsson playing

the final 30 minutes.

Line-up and formation: Lamine Sané made his debut alongside Fallou Diagne in central defence, with Ulisses Garcia and Leon Guwara flanking them. Junuzovic, Fritz, Florian Kainz and Fin Bartels played in midfield, with Max Kruse in behind Lennart Thy.

Max Kruse impresses

3rd Minute: Lennart Thy had the first chance of the game but he fires wide of the right-hand post after bursting into the box.

5th Minute: Florian Kainz takes aim from outside the box but his effort is tipped behind. Max Kruse gets his head on the resulting corner but it flashes just wide.

10th Minute: Max Kruse  chips the ball into the box but Bartels is unable to convert. Excellent play though!

21st Minute: Meppen have their first chance of the game - Marius Kleinsorge makes his way into the box but hits his shot straight at Jaroslav Drobny.

23rd Minute: Kainz hits another from outside the box but it drifts over.

30th Minute: Leon Guwara races into the box and sends the ball to Lennart Thy, however, the forward’s shot is blocked by Menno Heerkes.

50th Minute: First chance of the second half falls to Fröde, but his effort from the edge of the box goes narrowly wide.

62nd Minute: Aron Jóhannsson is back! The US international returns after almost a year out! Welcome back!

65th Minute: GOOOAAAL FOR WERDER! Izet Hajrovic sends over a delicious cross and Johannes Eggestein nods home.

68th Minute: Yatabaré almost makes it two! The Mali star gets his head on another Hajrovic cross but the keeper manages to tip it to safety.

86th Minute: "Jojo" Eggestein takes the ball down on his chest before unleashing a rocket of a shot, which gets deflected behind for a corner.

87th GOOOAAL FOR WERDER! Yatabaré heads home a Hajrovic corner.

Summary: Werder claimed a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Johannes Eggestein and Sambou Yatabaré. The attacking intent shown against Chelsea was retained and defensive stability was maintained throughout the game.
