Conclusion: Werder set up with an attacking 3-4-3 formation. Sabitzer and Forsberg continuelly tried to serve striker Timo Werner for the away side, but the Green and Whites showed the defensive stubbornness which has been present throughout their recent performances and fought exceptionally hard. The game would have been even more comfortable for Werder, but for some lapses in concentration at the back in the first-half. The fans had to be patient and wait for signs of the home side’s attacking threat. Werder found it difficult to conjure any meaningful goalscoring opportunities. The first chance Werder had was taken with aplomb by stand-in skipper Junuzovic. After this, Nouri’s men looked to make the most of mistakes from the visitors and countered effectively. Grillitsch extended Werder’s lead in the second-half and Kainz put the icing on the cake for the Green and Whites as he rounded off a perfect day for the home side.
