Conclusion: Alexander Nouri’s team needed a few minutes to adjust to the loss of Lamine Sané as Freiburg had the better of the opening exchanges. In the same way as against Leipzig, Werder struck with their first real shot at goal. Werder then defended resolutely, without penetrating the Freiburg back line when in attack. Freiburg head coach Christian Streich made three changes at half-time, but Delaney’s second which came just after the whistle for the second period gave Werder breathing space. In the final 25 minutes, some lapses in concentration at the back meant it wasn’t as comfortable as it could have been for Werder, but the Bremen side continued to be clinical in attack and deserved the victory.
