SV Werder could only manage a 2-2 draw in their away clash with SV Darmstadt. It was a quiet first half, in which Antonio-Mirko Colak put the hosts into the lead from the penalty spot. The game, however, came to life in the second period and shortly after the break, Lamine Sané got Werder back on level terms (51’). Serge Gnabry then turned the game on its head in the 67th minute but despite this great comeback, Colak got his and his team's second of the game just six minutes later and secured a point for the hosts.

Line-up: “Don't change it if it's not broken” was Alexander Nouri’s motto in this game. There was however one exception to this, as Lamine Sané returned to centre-back after recovering from a knee problem, this meant his replacement last week, Milos Veljkovic, only made the bench. Werder loanee Laszlo Kleinheisler started for the Lilies, while Darmstadt’s other Green-White loanee Leon Guwara was forced to sit out this tie after being sent off in his last game. Werder full-back Luca Caldirola could also only watch his teammates from the sideline.

Werder trail to Colak’s penalty

1st minute: Kick-off! The Green-Whites are on the hunt for their second victory in a row, which would also be their 750th Bundesliga win in their history.

6th minute: First good chance for the hosts as Jerome Gondorf hits the post with a free-kick from about 30 yards out. Jaroslav Drobny in the Werder goal would have probably had it covered anyway.

12th minute: Serge Gnabry tries to run past Fedetskiy but the Ukrainian fouls him and sees yellow - he now has to be careful when challenging Werder’s tricky attackers. Overall, neither team has been able to create many clear-cut chances so far, with most of the play happening in the middle of the park.

19th minute: Goal for Darmstadt. A long ball goes over the head of Theodor Gebre Selassie and with his back turned to the striker, Gebre Selassie inadvertently steps on Colak’s foot and the pair fall down. Referee Dr. Drees points to the spot and Werder feel it’s a harsh decision. Antonio-Mirko Colak converts the spot kick.

28th minute: The Green-Whites aren’t affected by the goal but are still finding it hard to create chances. The challenges are heating up and Fedetskiy brings down Gnabry again but the referee doesn’t show the right-back another yellow. Three minutes later, Sandro Sirigu replaces the cautioned Darmstadt man.

36th minute: Now Darmstadt’s captain Sulu also goes into the referee’s book after bringing down Manneh. Sulu then clears just ahead of Gebre Selassie from the resulting free-kick

45th minute: Half time in Darmstadt. Just like last week, Werder go into the break undeservedly a goal behind. The Green-Whites will again have to come from behind if they want to win this one.

Sané and Gnabry turn the game around but Colak equalises

46th minute: Nouri makes a double change which sees Robert Bauer and Izet Hajrovic replaced by Janek Sternberg and Fin Bartels. Hopefully these are the changes Werder need to be more of a threat going forwards.

51st minute: GOOAAL for Werder! Lamine Sané nods in the equaliser and his first Bundesliga goal for SVW from close range, after Gnabry then Gebre Selassie both head on a Junuzovic free-kick.

54th minute: SVW again go close! This time a shot from Florian Grillitsch stings the palms of Daniel Esser in the Darmstadt goal, he is then replaced by Daniel Heuer-Fernandes after injuring himself during Werder’s goal.

59th minute: Bartels saves Werder from going behind again! Jerome Gondorf gets on the end of a cross from the right hand side and would have poked the ball home if it wasn’t for Fin Bartels sliding in to block his shot on the line. Werder then counter and Ousman Manneh fires two shots at Heuer-Fernandes who saves twice.

62nd minute: The next Green-White chance – Junuzovic’s corner finds Gebre Selassie but his header is straight at the goalkeeper. At the moment, Werder look the more likely to get the next goal, nevertheless, the Lilies are still dangerous on the counter.

67th minute: GOOOOOAAAAAAAAALLLL! WERDER COME BACK FROM A GOAL DOWN! Amazing scenes! Manneh plays Gnabry through on goal, the Gambian looks unhappy with his pass; he thinks it’s too heavy. However, Gnabry turns on the afterburners and gets on the end of it, he rounds the goalkeeper and keeps his cool to put Werder into the lead.

73rd minute: Darmstadt level things up just six minutes later. Gondorf play a long diagonal ball towards Colak in the box and the striker volleys the ball into the far post from a tight angle. It’s a goal from nothing just when Werder looked to have control of the game.

85th minute: The game has become more open and the heavens have opened - now it’s a battle of will. Can Werder repeat last week’s late heroics?

89th minute: What a chance! Gebre Selassie gets on the end of another Junuzovic corner but Heuer-Fernandes somehow blocks the header!

90th minute: Full time in Darmstadt. SVW and Darmstadt 98 share the spoils. Werder will feel they could have won the game but a point still isn’t a bad result.

Summary: Werder initially had problems breaking down the Darmstadt defence and had no shots on goal in the first half. However, Werder found the solution to this in the second period and deservedly took the lead, albeit temporarily. Despite showing great fight and spirit, Werder have to settle for a point heading into the international break.
