76th minute: Gladbach find a bit of purpose for the first time in the second half. Hazard fires a low shot at goal which cannons into the post.
80th minute: Red card for Aron Johannsson. Werder’s attacker makes his protests to referee Stieler after a challenge with Dahoud. The referee then unhesitatingly shows Johannsson a red card. Whatever was said, it was wholly unnecessary.
90th minute: Referee Stieler brings an end to the game. Werder lose 4-1.
Summary: Careless and naive defending from the very beginning by the entire Bremen side, coupled with falling asleep in the opening minutes of the game led to a dismal first half, completely putting the team on the wrong track far too early in the match. With their high tempo and their simple, direct play, the hosts overpowered the Green-Whites, who were far too open at the back. Werder did at least show a different side to them after half time, with Serge Gnabry scoring a dream first goal as a as a consolation on what was a dreadful evening.
