48th minute: Goal for Frankfurt. A corner results in Mijat Gacinovic getting the ball over the line. Eintracht reduce the lead to 2-1.
53rd minute: Werder have to make another substitution. Luca Caldirola leaves the game, and Ulisses Garcia comes on in his place.
65th minute: Similar to on Tuesday, SVW have a lot of room to play with on the counter. The boys know that one more goal for Werder will see them out for the rest of the game.
72nd minute: Frankfurt equalise. Marco Fabian converts a penalty after Niklas Moisander brought down Branimir Hrgota in the box.
76th minute: Centimetres away from regaining the lead. A cross from Kainz is nodded on by Gebre Selassie onto Grillitsch. His shot avoids Hradecky’s fingertips, but the ball dips over him and is also wide of the goal.
80th minute: Danny Blum gets a bit lucky to receive the ball shortly outside the penalty area, takes a touch but his effort misses the target. Both teams are playing for a win.
88th minute: The batteries of the players are noticeably lacking after the mid-week fixtures, but they’re still giving it their all out there in the hope of securing all three points. Werder are on top ever so slightly at the moment.
89th minute: Kruse could’ve scored the winner there. Junuzovic plays the ball from the left into the path of the onrushing Kruse, but he hits Abraham with his shot. What a chance!
90th+3 minute: There’s the whistle. Werder can’t be separated from Eintracht Frankfurt as it ends 2-2.
Conclusion: The first-half was a thing of beauty for Werder fans. The opponents had more of the ball, but Werder had more goals. The double before the break was proof of the side’s ability to be clinical. Frankfurt’s first goal after the break didn’t do much to change Werder’s approach to the game, but SVW failed to extend their lead. Instead, they were punished for a lapse in concentration on defense. Following that, Werder intensified their offensive efforts, and in the closing minutes Kruse had the biggest chance at scoring the winner, but unfortunately, the teams have to be satisfied with a point each.
