46th minute: The second half gets underway. Werder go out unchanged but Mainz make a substitution, taking off former Werder man Levin Öztunali, bringing on Pablo de Blasis.
50th minute: Fantastic from Wiedwald! A free kick comes into the box and despite being the smallest player in the area, De Blasis gets on the end of it. His header is aimed towards the bottom corner, but Wiedwald reacts quickly and pushes the ball clear.
51st minute: Millimeters from another! This time it is Werder's turn to threaten from a free kick. After a minor scramble Moisander gets a shot away which creeps under the body of Lössl. However, Stefan Bell throws himself backwards and scrambles it clear on the line. In the scrum, Thomas Delaney caught a knock to the head, eventually needing to be taken off on the stretcher and replaced by Maximilian Eggestein. Get well soon, Thomas!
56th minute: Things are becoming a little heated. Jairo Sampeiro receives a yellow card for a trip to break up a counter. Mainz are still probing for a way through but finding no joy.
60th minute: Junuzovic clears it off the line! Aaron Seydel heads the ball towards goal from a corner, but Junuzovic is doing his duty on the post and gets it away!
67th minute: Werder stride forward again as Bartels and Junuzovic combine, but they cannot turn it into another goal. They are finding space for themselves on the break as Mainz commit further forward.
76th minute: Milos Vejkovic comes on in place of Serge Gnabry as Werder look to close up shop and see out the final stages of the game, while Fritz receives a booking, meaning he will be suspended for the next game.
85th minute: Werder are mostly pinned back in their own third but still look dangerous on the counters they can forge. Almost there!
88th minute: Wiedwald again! De Blasis pops up in the penalty area with a header yet again, but like the last time, the Werder goalkeeper is equal to it, showing lightning reactions again to launch himself across his own goal and tip it clear. Werder race down the other end and make a chance, but Lössl blocks Kruse off.
90th+2 minute: Mainz have the ball in the net, but the linesman correctly rules Cordoba offside.
90th+3 minute: FULL TIME! The referee blows his whistle and confirms a massive win for SVW!
Summary: An excellent showing from Nouri's side right through the game. The two first half goals put them on the right track and a well-managed second half saw them through to the end. The team were compact and defensively rock solid, combined with dangerous and clinical forward play. Werder deserved the three points and the clean sheet that came with them. Their next match will be on Friday 24th February away to VfL Wolfsburg.
