[] SV Werder Bremen beat fellow Bundesliga side FC Ingolstadt 1-0

on Saturday afternoon thanks to a strike from Fin Bartels.

Line-up and formation: Felix Wiedwald played between the sticks, with Janek Sternberg, Niklas Moisander, Lamine Sané and Theodor Gebre Selassie in front of him. Clemens Frit, Zlatko Junuzovic, Fin Bartels, Sambou Yatabaré and Max Kruse operated in midfield. Lennart Thy was the lone forward.

Bartels nets late on

6th Minute: Ingolstadt have the first chance of the game. Matthew Leckie races into the box and takes a shot, however, it drifts over.

23rd Minute: Fin Bartels has Bremen’s first chance. He picks the ball up but fires straight at Nyland from a tight angle.

34th Minute: Max Kruse gets his first opportunity of the game but he is unable to convert when well placed.

42nd Minute: GOAL FOR WERDER! Kruse plays a delightful ball to Bartels, who remains composed and fires the ball into the back of the net. 1-0!

Disjointed second period

60th Minute: Not much has happened so far. Aaron Jóhannsson replaced Lennart Thy at the break. Luca Caldirola and Leon Guwara come on for Moisander and Gebre Selassie with 30 to go.

64th Minute: Jóhannsson almost bags a goal, however, his powerful effort gets deflected behind for a corner.

75th Minute: The game is becoming a fragmented affair due to the number of changes and fouls taking place. It’s getting hard for either side to find their rhythm.

90th Minute: Felix Wiedwald tips over an injury time free kick and the whistle blows shortly after.

Summary: A successful dress rehearsal for Werder. Bartels and Kruse boosted their starting credentials with classy performances. Competitive football gets under way next weekend!
