“We would have very much liked to continue working with Santi. He was 100% a part of the club and always gave his best effort. Unfortunately we have been unable to agree on a new contract,” explained Baumann.
García, who will be wished farewell in Saturday’s home game against 1899 Hoffenheim, lamented the end of his time in Bremen: “A wonderful time is coming to an end for me and my family. I’ve always felt very comfortable here with the club, and it’s a shame that we couldn’t work out a deal to continue my time here. I wish Werder and the fans all the best.”
In 2013, Santiago García – firstly on loan, then permanently – joined SV Werder. Overall, the 28-year-old played 93 times for the Green-whites in the Bundesliga, and five times in the DFB-Pokal.
