After two restful days, the team returned to training on Monday to start preparations ahead of Saturday evening’s encounter with Bayer Leverkusen (18:30 CEST). Along with three goalkeepers Felix Wiedwald, Michael Zetterer, Eric Oelschlägel and eleven outfield players, the Green-Whites took to the training pitch to begin the week’s training. Jaroslav Drobny of course misses out after breaking his left hand which is now in a plaster cast.

The Czech unfortunately has no chance of featuring in the next two games, he commented to WERDER.DE: “I wanted to try, but with two broken bones the risk is too high. You have to be careful. Head coach Alexander Nouri added: “The cast will be off in around 14 days and then we’ll wait and see how everything goes.”

Aron Jóhannsson (thigh) and Maximilian Eggestein (adductor) were carrying knocks so trained individually on Monday, it’s likely both of them will however return to full training on Tuesday.

As the week goes on, the players on international duty will start to return to add to the currently reduced numbers in training. Ulisses Garcia was the first international to return to Bremen after he was called up to the Switzerland U21 squad for their away game against Norway on Friday evening. He didn’t, however, feature in the game.

Preparations for Saturday’s game against Bayern 04 will carry on on Tuesday, as the players will have a double session, first training at 10:00 CEST and then at 15:00 CEST.
