At the end of the six day training camp, the club management drew a lot of positives from the trip away. “We used our time very well and managed to cover a lot of what we wanted to. It was also important for us to make use of the perfect training conditions here, given the freezing temperatures back home in Bremen,” explained Alexander Nouri. “We didn’t waste any time on bus journey and could train without too many other teams in the same hotel or on the same training pitches. It was definitely the right choice coming out here,” added a very content Frank Baumann.
Even if the actual number of training sessions didn’t seem that high, the coaching staff managed the players’ workloads through intensive individual training sessions and additional sessions. On the training ground, implementing team tactics and the way we want to play. “In terms of tactics, we have done a lot of hard work,” said Baumann.
The main highlight of the training camp came in the form of the double-matchday on Monday, in which Werder played out 1-1 draws with Karlsruhe and Brügge, respectively. “The friendly matches were mostly positive for us and showed us what still needs work,” said Frank Baumann in the wake of the busy day, while also bringing attention to the situation in the table, adding “we cannot forget that we are currently only three points from the relegation places and we will have to fight hard for every point in the second half of the season.”
Beyond that, the positive atmosphere and reactions in the last few days in Spain have been prevalent. “From the very start, we have been clear on how positive reactions and a general good mood can be for everyone right across the board,” stated Nouri. “Everyone has their role in that: players, management, staff and fans,” and it is something he said he was seen from all sides.
